CARAMEL SLICE
makes roughly 30 pieces

i have been obsessed with this caramel slice lately!! it is SOOO yummy and so easy to make. it is originally my boyfriends grandma's recipe and we only ever use to eat it on special occasions but i would constantly crave it so i had to ask her for the recipe. these are just one of those sweets that when you start eating them you can't stop so luckily the recipe makes quite a few slices 😂

i hope you enjoy this sweet treat as much as i do.

Ingredients:
60g Butter
1/4 cup Golden Syrup
200g tube of condensed milk
250g packet of milk arrowroot biscuits (any sweet biscuit), crushed
50g slivered almonds
250g block Cadbury Dairy Milk (or any block of your choice)

Method:
step 1. in a large microwave-proof bowl melt the butter, golden syrup and condensed milk on high (100% power) for 1-1 1/2 minutes. Stir well. if there are still chunks of butter just keep stirring it and they will melt down as your are stirring the mixture.
step 2. crush biscuits in a food processor or by hand (if not done already). i like to add the almonds in aswell so they are also crushed.
step 3. thoroughly stir in the biscuit crumbs and almonds.
step 4. press into a 28 x 18cm slab pan (any size slab pan you have around this size will do). i tend to have to use my hands for this part to make sure its all spread and pressed evenly.
step 5. roughly chop the chocolate and melt in the microwave on low heat in 15-30 second bursts for approximately 2 minutes or until melted.
step 6. spread the melted chocolate over the crumb mixture and place in the fridge to set. after half an hour or so, take out and cut into desired pieces then place back into the fridge to set further. if you leave it too long in the fridge it is impossible to cut into pieces.

please make sure you share me with your thoughts if you make them!!
sorry there aren't any photos of the 'making' process i couldn't get any good ones but i figured it is a pretty straight forward recipe so it should be okay!!

i am very happy to say that its time to start writing holiday blog posts again!! 🎉🎉🎉
we are just over 3 months away for our second cruise with Royal Caribbean except this time we are going on the Ovation of the Seas (one of the largest cruise ships in the world), i am SO excited!
its going to be a completely different holiday this time though; i won't be out sunbathing or wearing my previous cruise attire for sure. from what i have read online, it is still fairly cold in New Zealand in November so i have to plan this one a little differently.

bae and i will be celebrating our 3 year anniversary and his birthday for a few days in Sydney before we head on a 12 night cruise around New Zealand.
the cruise takes us to the sounds (Milford Sound, Doubtful Sound and Dusty Sound) this is just scenic cruising, which i am looking forward to because it means some great photo taking opportunities and more time to relax on the boat. we then head to Dunedin and Wellington followed by a sea day and then finishing off with Tauranga, Auckland and Bay of Islands.
overall i am looking forward to this itinerary, we have a few more sea days compared to our previous cruise (6 in total- including the sounds day) which is always nice considering we are on a larger ship with a lot more things to do but it also means it breaks up the shore days as well. i found on the last cruise that it got rather exhausting having 5 fully booked shore days in a row with no break.

SHORE EXCURSIONS
we have already booked majority of our shore excursions. we choose to book them through Royal Caribbean again this time, as after doing some research it really isn't that much cheaper to do them through a private tour company and i much prefer to have the piece of mind that if anything happens and you are running late, the ship can't leave without you (if you booked through RC themselves).

in Dunedin, we booked the Speights Brewery and Dunedin Panorama Tour which goes for a total of 4 hours. the tour includes a tour of the Speights Brewery (bae is into his beer so i thought this one would be a good one for him) where you get a complimentary tasting of 4 beers and obviously a demonstration on how beer is made etc. the second half of the tour gives us the opportunity to learn more about Dunedin's history where we can stroll the botanic gardens and explore the historic railway station.  the second half is more so for me, i think it will be a perfect time to take some photos and i enjoy learning about the history of places. the Dunedin Railway Station is also one of New Zealand's most photographed buildings, so that is exciting.
we initially wanted to go to the Cadbury World factory tour in Dunedin but it closed down (i was literally devastated it was half the reason i was going to NZ haha)

for Wellington we have a tour booked for the Lord of the Rings and WETA workshop which goes for a total of 3 and a half hours. to be honest i haven't actually seen any of the LOTR movies so i probably should watch them before we cruise but bae wanted to do some LOTR stuff and i am more then happy to tag along especially for the WETA portion of this tour. WETA is like a mini museum that has special effects, props and displays for all different movies which i think will be really cool and interesting. the LOTR portion of the tour is visiting places where the have filmed scenes and a tour of the middle earth. we will have a few hours left after the tour, so i am hoping we can get on the famous wellington cable car and maybe do some shopping.

finally the last shore tour we have booked through Royal Caribbean is one for Tauranga, which is the Lord of the Rings Hobbiton Movie Set tour which goes for a total of 4 and a half hours. even though i haven't seen the movies yet, i am already looking forward to this tour because it looks so picturesque and cute. the tour involves a walk around the hobbiton village at your own leisure and a drink at the famous LOTR Green Dragon Inn.
we were actually tossing up whether to do this tour through a private company as you were able to see a little bit of Rotoura on the way to Hobbiton however the we arrive in Tauranga at 6.45am and most tours don't start until 8am including the one we looked at, so it was highly unlikely we could do an 8 hour tour and make it back on the ship in time. (it would just send my anxiety through the roof all day worrying if we were going to make it haha)

for Auckland and Bay of Islands where we have nothing booked, we are going to try and navigate ourselves.
in Auckland, we are thinking of doing the bridge climb and bungee jump as well as the sky tower and the aquarium (probably some shopping to). for Bay of Islands we want to find a cultural tour to do. i have been looking at a few different options so hopefully we can narrow it down. but i do think it is important to experience the cultural aspect of New Zealand whilst we are there.

ON-BOARD PURCHASES
we are pretty much done with on-board purchases, we managed to purchase everything pretty early and during Royal Caribbeans pop up sales (which i highly recommend you look out for).

this cruise we are again going with the all inclusive non-alcoholic drink package. for me it is so not worth paying an extra $50 per day for the alcoholic package when i don't really drink and when for 6 out of the 12 days you are off the boat for 8-10 hours of the day.
we ended up paying $27 AUD a day (was on sale 30%) for the refreshment package but we had $130 AUD on-board credit so it only ended up costing us $258.82 each (or $21.50 a day). i really do recommend looking out for sales and when booking trying to get a deal that includes on-board credit because it really does help when selecting/buying packages that are normally expensive.

we also purchased the internet package again this cruise. we decided to go for the 1 device package and just share the usage like we did last cruise; which worked well considering we only really used it to check social media and contact our families. the internet package was also on sale when we purchased it (we choose to get the Voom surf + stream package, which is a little more pricey but has way better connection). we ended up paying $17.00 a day and split it between the two of us, so it was just over $100 AUD each. if you aren't too worried about internet and won't be using it all the time, i definitely think its worth splitting and sharing the package.

one thing we didn't do last cruise was try any of the specialty restaurants. so this time i have booked us to have lunch at Jamie's Italian restaurant and i am SO looking forward to it. the best part about a cruise is the fact you can order as much food as you want for no extra cost, so we will definitely be trying everything on the menu!
Royal Caribbean had a sale on select specialty restaurants for lunch dining so i managed to score dining on a sea day for $24 AUD each. this is SO cheap considering you can order as much as you like. so i would definitely keep an eye out for these pop up sales.

the last thing we have to purchase is the arcade credit, you can purchase this on-board but you save 20% if you pre-purchase online. last cruise we purchased $25 USD and use it all up before the end of the cruise so this time we might up it to $50 USD each which works out to be roughly $108 AUD total for the two of us. the arcade is a fun way to kill some time, on our previous cruise we would normally go before or after dinner.

WHAT WE HAVE DONE DIFFERENT/TIPS
the preparation for this cruise has been done a little differently to the last one. i think because we semi know what to expect, i haven't been so stressed and haven't tried to research every single detail which is nice because it has given a chance for the unknown for when we board.

this time we are going to take more USD to spend on-board. this will give us a chance to purchase alcoholic drinks if we wish to or do a little bit more on-board shopping. it will also allow us the opportunity to eat at more specialty dining if we choose to.
last cruise, we only took a small amount of USD and shared it between us which didn't give us heaps of room to move. so this cruise we definitely don't want to be worrying about money, we just want to enjoy our holiday.

i have also been more on top of the sales and new editions to the cruise planner this cruise. i have learnt to check the cruise planner daily and monitor the prices of things (especially stuff like the drinks package and internet package). by monitoring the cruise planner i was able to get shore excursions as they popped up on the planner and book things at a sale price. it is definitely an easy way to save money if you are willing to look everyday. i am 99% sure everything we booked/have brought has been on sale. so it is definitely worth the 5 minutes of your day.

WHAT WE STILL NEED TO DO
considering we have been so prepared and organised there isn't much left for us to do.
we just have to check in which is available from the 90 day mark (as in 90 days to go until cruise day) and print all of our documents. i find this part the most stressful because it is crucial that it is done correctly otherwise boarding day is going to be a nightmare. so pray for me.

also available from the 90th day mark are bookings for the entertainment on-board. this is different to how our previous cruise ran, we could just show up to shows/entertainment during the evening. but considering the Ovation is so big, they have a booking system for the most popular shows and things (such as the Ifly and Northstar) so basically its a first in best dressed scenario (you are able to show up on the day but you have to line up and hope someone doesn't show for their booking).
so i highly recommend checking your cruise planner around check in time to avoid missing out on these bookings.

other than that we just have to buy some USD and NZD for on-board credit and spending.
i am currently watching the exchange rate and praying for some miracle that it goes up so we get more for our money but it isn't looking great. i normally try and purchase foreign currency about a month to two months out.

all in all i am starting to get SO excited for this holiday and it is sneaking up pretty quickly. i am excited to try a new ship and experience a new country. so stay tuned for more holiday prep blog posts as the countdown continues!

i can't believe we are in the second half of the year already. SO CRAZY
does anyone else feel like time just goes so quickly these days?! i am looking forward to the rest of the year though, im especially looking forward to my holiday (4 months to go)!
this month feels like it has gone really quick but with that being said it has been a crazy one at that.
i didn't really purchase many new products this month however i have managed to find three new products that are definitely my favourites and that have made their way into my 'stape products'.

Urban Decay Petite Heat Palette
my first favourite from June is the Urban Decay Petite Heat Palette. i have been eyeing this off ever since it was first released in the UK and USA but it took us forever to get it here in Australia, so when it finally arrived at the end of May i was only inclined to get it and i am so glad i did.

the palette has lived up to all my expectations. the shadows are so creamy and pigmented and they are a DREAM to swatch and use. this was my first time purschasing/using the Urban Decay shadows and i was definitely impressed.
this palette is literally perfect for me; there is not one shade i wouldn't use, its so versatile and perfect for travel. i can see myself reaching for this palette for many months to come.

Estee Lauder Doublewear Nude Water Fresh Foundation
the Estee Lauder Doublewear Nude Water Fresh foundation is literally speaking to me on a whole other level at the moment.
i had previously tried a sample and liked it, i didn't think much of it but thought it was a nice lighter coverage foundation then i was use to. i decided to purchase it as my 'sunday' or 'errand' foundation which is what i primarily used it for in earlier months. it wasn't until this month that i discovered that no other foundation was working for me in this cold weather. my skin was dry and uneven and every other foundation just seemed to be sticking to every flaw and becoming quite cakey except this one. the water fresh lightweight formula is really complimenting my skin in this weather and i am not finding my skin to look dry or cakey at all.

it just sits really nice on the skin and i like that the coverage is very buildable. you can have it as sheer as you like to as medium to full coverage as you like. i like to build it up a little so its a more of a medium coverage. the foundation feels weightless on the skin and it is definitely my go-to foundation this winter.
i highly recommend this one for anyone with dry skin or anyone who wants something weightless with buildable coverage.

Milkshake Leave In Conditoner
a little bit of an unusual favourite for me this month was the Milkshake Leave In Conditioner.  i generally stick to the same hair products until my hair dresser used this on me at my last hair appointment.
it smells AMAZING like caramel, if you are familiar with the Peter Alexander scent/Glasshouse Candle Tahaa then this smells EXACTLY like that
it leaves my hair feeling smooth and hydrated without it being weighed down or sticky. after the product is sprayed in your hair you literally wouldn't know its there (besides the scent obviously).
i also really like that this product is super affordable ($24.95 AUD),  i normally don't bother with the products my hairdresser uses on me because they are generally expensive so i was surprised when she told me the price of this one.

i use this product once i have washed my hair, spraying it through whilst its wet then spraying again once my hair is dry. it feels like such a luxury because it smells like I've been to the hairdresser every time i wash my hair haha.

so it has been a while since i have done a 'whats on my wishlist' post and i thought seeing as my holiday is approaching and we are just starting winter i would share what is currently on my ASOS wishlist! there is A LOT so i will probably only put the things i really want!

my ASOS wishlist is always the biggest and the most adventurous. typically it has items that range from clothes to shoes and birthday cards to mugs. i generally also find myself wishlisting items for gifts for other people (especially my boyfriend), there is just always something on there i know he will love.

anyway so lets get into it...
*all links and pictures courtesy of ASOS

CLOTHES

ASOS Design Vacay Tee and Frill Short Set - $48.00 AUD
the first thing on my wishlist in the clothing department are these pyjamas! they are super cute and obviously perfect for my holiday. although i do wish they were a little cheaper but nonetheless they are on my pre holiday shop list thats for sure.

Outrageous Fortune Ruffle Sleeve Detail Top in Nude - $48.00 AUD
i feel like i never have enough 'going out tops or nice tops', every time i have a dinner or anything at night i am always like i have NOTHING to wear.  so i definitely want to add this one to my growing collection. i really like the colour and im not entirely sure if the sleeves are something i love but i do like everything else about it.

New Look Brooklyn Logo Tee - $16.00 AUD
you can never have too many graphic tees! this made it to my wishlist primarily because it says 'Williamsburg Brooklyn'. if you've seen 2 Broke Girls then you know! i have never tried a new look tee so i am not entirely sure on what the quality will be like but for $16.00 you cant really go wrong.

Glamorous Playsuit with Gathered Cuffs and Sheer Sleeves in Coral - $39.00 AUD sale
i actually really like this playsuit (which is a little unusual for me because i am definitely a jeans and  a tee type of gal). but i think its really pretty and i like the sheer sleeves and the colour. i would more then likely take this on holiday with me and wear it to a few dinners with some wedges or heels.

Pimkie Bardot Floral Print Playsuit - $44.00 AUD
another playsuit on my wishlist CRAZY! again, i am thinking for holiday. i like how this is strapless but has a layer of material that covers your boob area. i don't know about you but i really don't like how my boobs looking wearing a strapless bra so i am always more inclined to buy something strapless if it has a extra over layer and isn't skin tight! *sorry if TMI*

ASOS Design Chunky Jumper in Rib with Crew Neck in Grey - $50.00 AUD
love love love this jumper! it looks super comfortable and i really like the neck on it. this jumper would look really nice half tucked into some mom jeans with some converse or white vans! i think this will definitely be on my purchase list.

Mink Pink Pretty Petals Beach Playsuit - $53.00 AUD sale
okay okay this is getting a little out of hand i know BUT its just so pretty!! i like how you could both dress up and dress down this playsuit. it could be really casual for a summers evening or it could be dressed up with some heels and jewellery for a birthday. Mink Pink also makes clothing that is always very flattering so i think this could look really nice on.

Bershka Pom Pom Jumper in Cream - $36.00 AUD sale
this is such a cute jumper and i love the pom poms, they are a nice little detail on a plain knit. i also like the colour of jumper and like the model i would also wear it with a pair of light jeans with some boots or like casual sneakers.

Chelsea Peers Miami Shark Long Pyjamas in Pink - $42.00 AUD sale
so if you didn't already know, i LOVE sharks (great white sharks in particular) so these are obviously on my wishlist. they are so cute and even know i really don't need anymore pyjamas they are will more than likely be a purchase in the near future (sorry bae)

Pimkie Leaf Print Tropical Swimsuit - $25.00 AUD sale
if it has a tropical print i am SOLD. the past year i really have been loving anything and everything tropical so i definitely need this (especially considering its on sale). i also wouldn't mind taking this on holiday with me as my primary swimsuit, we probably won't do much swimming but in case we do, i think this would be a good purchase.

Pretty Little Thing Polka Dot Bardot Mini Dress in White - $44.00 AUD
despite the fact this doesn't have an over layer on the top, i really like this dress! i think its classy and cute and also super cheap?! i wouldn't mind giving it a try and seeing how it looks on. but it would definitely look cute with some red accessories like the model has styled it but also with just some black or nude strappy heels.

SHOES

ASOS Munch Loafer Flat Shoes in Black - $50.00 AUD
i am patiently waiting (not patient at all but we can pretend)  for these to restock in my size!!! because they are exactly what i have been looking for!! i would wear these to work but also with jeans and a knit jumper (like Ana Grey in Fifty Shades Freed). so heres hoping they restock ASAP

Boohoo Studded Buckle Ankle Boot in Grey - $60.00 AUD
i have never looked at boohoo for shoes but these boots caught my eye. i am really into suede boots this season so i really like that these aren't your typical black suede boot. i like the buckles and the embellishing on the boot. hopefully they come back in stock in my size!!

Nike Running Epic React Sneaker in Blue and Pink - $257.00 AUD
i NEED these!!! i orginally saw this shoe whilst in Melbourne when they were first released but they hadn't released the full colour range yet so i was hesitant to try on/get a pair that i wasn't fully in love with... and then they released this colourway and i fell inlove!! apparently they are super comfy and supportive (people are comparing them to Adidas Ultra Boosts which i already love) so these are also something i am waiting/hoping to come back in my size!

Kaltur White Ankle Tie Flatform Espadrille Sandals - $89.00 AUD
although these are really pricey, i think they would be so perfect for holiday and the summer! i really like they design of them and the woven pattern. i think they would look great with a summer dress or a denim skirt or even some blue or white jeans when it is a bit cooler. if these ever go on sale then i will definitely be purchasing them.

ASOS Scarlette Mid Heels in Rose Gold - $42.00 AUD sale
these are a little out of my comfort zone but i really like them!! i like the pointed toe and the block heel and surprisingly i really like the metallic rose gold. these heels would look nice with a dress and also with a pair of jeans which is what i would probably wear them with.

Public Desire Rose Gold Oyster Triple Strap Sandals - $52.00 AUD
again a little different for me but i love!!! i need these in my life to wear with dresses when i go out (which is never but hey i can be prepared right?) they are just so pretty!! i like that they arent over the top and have a good chunky heel and simple straps.

ACCESSORIES

Tangle Teezer Wet Detangler Hairbrush in Black - $22.00 AUD
the first random item on my wishlist is this tangle teezer brush. can you believe i never knew about/tried a tangle teezer brush until this year? now im ready to throw out all my other brushes and own 20 tangle teezers. they just work SO well. so i definitely will be investing in this beauty (and probably several others)

Le Mini Macaron Gel Manicure Kit in Cherry Red - $49.99 AUD
so i am big on having a manicure and nice nails which i normally get done every 4-6 weeks. but obviously waiting that long results in chips and cracks in my polish... which is why this has made its way onto my wishlist. after all this time i could just do it at home?! myself?! why have i never thought of this? anyway basically i need this and all the accompanying shades to go with it.
Le Mini Macaron Gel Nail Polish in Spiced Chai - $19.99 AUD
Le Mini Macaron Gel Nail Polish in Honey Ginger - $19.99 AUD
Le Mini Macaron Gel Nail Polish in Pommegranate - $19.99 AUD

Accessorize Sophie Tazzle Saddle Bag - $40.50 AUD sale
this bag is so gorg and i need!!!! i definitely want this to take on holiday with me. its just so nice and i really love the colours, they are giving me all the holiday vibes. this would more than likely only ever be used as a going out or to dinner bag but thats okay because its so reasonably priced!! (*hint to bae*

Maya Allover Sequin Embroidered Clutch Bag in Green Lily - $76.00 AUD
this bag reminds me so much of the gatsby era. it is really pretty and i would love to wear this as a statement piece to a wedding or function (i have none of these events coming up but). heres hoping it goes on sale so i can snap it up and hoard it until an event presents itself

Stradivarius 'Mine Yours' Mug Set - $15.00 AUD sale
these mugs are so cute! i think these would be great to put in my 'glory box' for when bae and i move in together or even to give as a gift. i really like to collect mugs for some reason, is anyone else with me?

so that wraps up my current ASOS wishlist, i hope you enjoyed a little insight of what i am currently lusting over. i wish i could share my entire wishlist with you but we would be here WAY too long. what is currently on your wishlist?! i would love to know!!

over the past month (my birthday month) i picked up a LOT of new beauty products.
bae and i took a trip to Melbourne for my birthday and of course that meant a trip (multiple) to Sephora and Mecca Maxima.
i managed to get my hands on the Anastasia Beverly Hills Soft Glam Palette and the Amrezy Highlighter as well as picking up many more goodies.

i haven't had a chance to test them all out as of yet but so far i have some real faves.

i am really liking the Mecca Max Banana bake range, it sets my concealer and my face really nicely and leaves it feeling super smooth and soft. i also LOVE the scent, its so nice (i love anything that has that artificial banana smell hahahah).

i have also been loving the ABH Soft Glam palette (obviously!!), i think its my favourite ABH palette yet. it just has the nicest shade range and they are all so useable. the shades are quite pigmented but the darker shades do have a little bit of fall out (which i expect with a good dark shade) so you just have to remember to tap out your brush before applying.

the benefit Bad Gal Bang Mascara is another item i am happy i picked up. i really like how it applies and how it makes my lashes look. however i am finding it does my eyes a little itchy when i wear it *cries* but i am not sure if it is just not agreeing with another product I'm using with it or if its just not right for me. so i am going to test it a few more times and pray its not me!!!

after running out of testers, i decided to finally invest in the Estee Lauder Double Wear Nude Water Fresh foundation. i really like how this looks on the skin and how it still gives a nice coverage but is still super light. i like to describe this as my perfect sunday foundation, i like to wear it on a sunday or weekend when i only have to run a few errands and want to look somewhat presentable but don't want to wear a full coverage foundation. would highly recommend this one to anyone who wants a nice light feeling foundation that still has enough coverage.
